Meet Mrs. Essenburg
I graduated from West Ottawa High School and felt called to go to Cornerstone University for psychology. After a semester I changed my focus to elementary education with a triple minor in Mathematics, Language Arts, and Spanish. Currently, I am working on my masters at Grand Valley for early childhood.
Right after college I did a semester of substituting and was able to substitute at South Olive Christian School and immediately fell in love! A few months later word got around that there will be an opening at South Olive for the following school year. God placed me at South Olive Christian School in 2011-2012 school year.
God has blessed me with a wonderful family, life and lots of adventures. I love to be active and keep busy, I love crafting and playing/coaching sports. I have grown up in a Christian home and became a follower of Christ at a young age. I am currently engaged to a wonderful man and plan to get married on July 25, 2015.
Why I became a Christian school teacher
This world is becoming a place where it is becoming more and more difficult to live in. We need to be able to give the kids a place of security and peace, but also a place where we can train and encourage them to live for God in this destructive world. I became a Christian school teacher because I truly belive that children need to feel loved, accepted and given opportunities to learn about God’s beauty in this world. I love sharing my testimony and explaining the world’s abstract beauty and give God all the glory for it.
An example of how I integrate faith into my classroom
Teaching K-1 students is an absolute blessing! The kids remind me of how excited and appreciative we can be of the little things in life; because of their enthusiasm and excitment for learning we have integrated a “pause for praise” (borrowed from another teacher) time for the students. Throughout the lesson, if a child wants to stop what we are doing to praise God for what we are learning we pause and shout “YAY GOD!”
I am a kid at heart! We are all responsible for recess duty throughout the week, you probably won’t be seeing me just watching the kids play but I love playing with them! I also love playing sports and am very competative. I also love crafting! My grandma, mother and I do craft shows together and create lots of fun things! at the same time.
